Guest Post: Faire Child Book Report #2

Welcome back, Faire Child! This is the second post in our blog collaboration. Faire Child is a new Nova Scotian children's wear company. They make practical and beautiful outdoor gear for kids, designed with an eye to reusability and style. And it's made in Dartmouth!

You can see their first guest post here, and the two posts I've shared with them are about picnics and camping, if you'd like to have a look. Thanks for sharing, Faire Child!

Name of Book: Blueberries For Sal

Year Published: 1948

Words and Pictures by: Robert McCloskey

What is the main topic of the book?: This classic book by Robert McCloskey follows a mama and child and a mama bear and cub as they pick blueberries on the same hillside, preparing for the long winter ahead. The inside jacket features a beautiful illustration of mama and child in the kitchen working together to preserve blueberries for the winter ahead.

Strengths: Originally drawn in 1948, the line drawings are expressive and beautiful. The sound effects are perfect as the pairs pick berries - ‘Kuplink, kuplank, kuplunk!’ and the repetition will appeal to your child. Have you gone berry picking with your child? Do you find they eat more than they pick as well? Do you even try to fight it?

Rating: 10/10!

The book contains little envelopes from which to pull real letters written from Goldilocks to the three bears, for example.
